Monday Art Lesson with Laurie Pace, and register for free Horse Painting by Wednesday, Nov 20th, 2013.

Combing Elements to create a Painting through color and composition.

This Monday Lesson is about combing more elements. using color to create movement on the surface of this small canvas, I have no intent of what will be painted here.  I literally am basing the color application on good composition and movement along with balance.

This is a small 9 x 12 inch board canvas and I am working the undercoating with acrylics.

After the surface is dry, I began to use my finger in more wet acrylic paint and began to push around the surface trying to mold in my mind what I wanted to form on the composition.  As you know I paint a lot of horses so of course that is what came to mind. See if you can line these up to note where I saw the movement to create this piece.  If I looked long enough, I might have flipped the painting and created a floral piece.

After securing a horse in mind I use more finger painting to form things up and then it was the palette knife I reached for. The layers of color came together with thick swipes of paint.

The Traveler, An Abstract Contemporary Horse Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace.

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013

The Traveler
Contemporary Horse Painting
30 x 30 inches Oil on Canvas.

This painting has intensity. This contemporary horse painting is a journey in itself as I began a different painting on the surface and discovered it was not where my creativity was smiling, so from that point, Traveler began to take its place on the surface. Rough ragged terrain and a horse crossing over it, blending in with the colors and the spirit.

This painting is available. Email me if you are interested in it.

This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.

This was a verse that really spoke to me this morning. Think about it when you read it.

"Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness. Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble. But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness. They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them." 1 John 2:9-11

White Runner
16 x 20 inches Oil on Canvas.

A painting I did in August that is available.  Brilliant colors and a more impressionistic representational horse in this painting.

This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.  1  John 1:5

Dawn Rising Contemporary Wolf Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

Not a Horse....Just a Brief Change of PACE

Dawn Rising
Contemporary Wolf Painting
24 x 36 inches Oil on Canvas.

Watching this painting develop was fascinating. I wanted to leave it at the blue stage, but had to finish the journey. There were many more in between shots I could have shared but I know you get bored with some of the progress shots.

What was amazing was the back light and colors in the early dawn as the light was breaking through the woods. I can only imagine this wolf in the newly fallen snow from the night to look up to see the dawn.  Her coat is dusted with the snow, her fur fluffed out with her winter coat...a play of contrast in colors and in composition in this unique contemporary wolf painting. It is available. Email me.

Contemporary Not a Horse Wolf Painting in Progress by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

Not a Horse....Just a Brief Change of PACE.... See The Finished Piece Tomorrow

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013

Contemporary Wolf Painting
24 x 36 inches Oil on Canvas.

I really like it like it is.  I love the intense blues and the background colors gently coming through.  So by now you know this is not a horse painting. One of my wolf pieces sold and I was asked to paint another one similar. I always worry about the spirit of a painting when I am trying to capture a certain feeling and this one is truly developing it's own depth.

Luke 6:36-38 - Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.  And do not judge and you will not be judged; and do not condemn, and you will not be condemned; pardon, and you will be pardoned.  Give and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, they will pour into your lap.  For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.
