Horse Paintings White Stallion Running by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013

Slowly coming to....
16 x 20 inches Oil on Canvas.

I began working on the head of the horse first and coming down the neck in this equine painting.  I was not sure about the background colors, but decided to play them up rather than take them out. Normally I would be taking them out... I can feel the strength in the composition and for the third time painting in the past week, feel a strength in myself that has not been there in awhile.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.
“As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts. Psalm 55:8-9

Beginnings of a new Horse Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013

Beginnings...
16 x 20 inches Oil on Canvas.

So I took the canvas and I created the background using Golden Acrylics.  I just chose colors I felt spiritually as I painted and then tossed in the blues for contrast to the deep oranges.  I debated on vertical or horizontal... and usually I would do this vertical but I felt the movement more in the horizontal.

Took up charcoal and sketched in the horse.  If I was knifing I would begin moving paint on now with the knife, but I took up the brush... still on a break from knife for some pieces....see more tomorrow.

I often wonder if God ever changes 'THE PLAN' that He has for us?
I know we have a certain amount of freedom in choosing things to do in life and we certainly take 'THE PLAN" out another door pretty often.  He probably lets us hang out there in some painful growing ways more than we would like.   Not sure what it takes to fully grasp we truly need to let Him be in our lives all the time, not just in times of trouble.
That sounded like the "Let It Be' song from the Beatles.

Maybe we should just 'let it be' and let Him work.

When I said, “My foot is slipping,”
your unfailing love, Lord, supported me.
When anxiety was great within me,
your consolation brought me joy. Psalm 94:18-19

Horse Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

Tree Transformation

40 x 40 Oil on Canvas SOLD.

This is where my tree painting came to rest. It started out in one direction but I firmly believe God's spirit drew me another way. It lives up in the Northeast now.

Words of my heart:
Free yourself, like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, like a bird from the snare of the fowler.  Proverbs 6:5

There is nothing like a walk along the shoreline at the lake and visiting our white ducks. We hear them jabbering every day and watch them from the dam, but walking on the waters edge makes it clear they are trusting.  READ more here.

Journey of a horse painting Rio Grande by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2012

Journey Continues Rio Grande Horse Painting, not done yet....
8 x 5 Feet Oil on Canvas  Commission SOLD

This is my first pulled back look at the painting. It is huge in my studio and I am not able to light the far top right corner for you to see the balance in the painting.  I see spots that need more work and that is where I will be working next. I will post the final later this week.

Words of my Heart...

You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
Psalm 16:11

Fall is creeping in and the leaves are turning... the golds and reds are salting and peppering across the piney greens.  It is a glorious time to walk and enjoy God's beauty surrounding us.  We have much to celebrate and give thanks for.

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013

Bella's Song (Tucker)
30 x 40 inches Oil on Canvas. SOLD

The painting is singing now... I lightened up one side and redirected some movement and brought in the color unleashing the best in contrast as it laid up again the blues and mauves... A beautiful contemporary horse painting... and I give thanks to the Holy Spirit
that guides my knife in my work each day.

But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
I will sing the Lord’s praise, for he has been good to me. Psalm 13:5-6

Tucker... coming along
30 x 40 inches Oil on Canvas. SOLD

Okay so the layering in of colors has begun...but something is still not working totally in this painting.  It is on the hanging stage right now, to let it hang around so I can finish this strong horse painting.

I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart;  I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.  I will be glad and rejoice in you;  I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High. Psalm 9:1-2

Tucker explodes...Horse Paintings at their beginnings by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013

Tucker continues
30 x 40 inches Oil on Canvas. SOLD

The background was laid in with about four or five layers and then wipes of color surrounding it.  Then the black horse was knifed in with blacks, Prussian blues, deep mauves...and then accented with swipes from the same palette.   I did four sketches and this is the one that was chosen.

When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them? Psalm 8:3-4

Tucker Begins Contemporary Horse Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013

Tucker Begins
30 x 40 inches Oil on Canvas. SOLD

There is always a unique relationship between a rider and their horse. The challenge comes from capturing that feeling that brings the two in sync when they ride.  While each painting is unique, each relationship between me and the canvas is unique as well.

Tucker is a solid black horse... so we will see where this grows...

A Moment Contemporary Horse Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013

A Moment
18 x 24 inches Oil on Canvas. SOLD and lives in Canada.

Wow, this is a horse painting from 2006 era... going into 2007 maybe.
Composition played strongly with conflict and color.  A unique horse painting.

Hope you are enjoying this walk back to when the horses became so much of my daily painting.

Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good? But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. “Do not fear their threats; do not be frightened.” But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander. For it is better, if it is God’s will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.  1 Peter 3:13-17

White Stallion Rules, Contemporary Horse Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013

White Stallion Rules
30 x 30 inches Oil on Canvas. SOLD

Another Archival painting... again you can see the changes in my work over the years from 2008 forward.  Again I cannot stress enough how important it is for growth in the artist as well as growth in the work.
If you did the same thing everyday you would not learn and grow from life.  So each painting is a step on my journey. This was from several years ago.
