Contemporary Abstract Horse Equine Art Painting Silver's Gang by A Texas Artist Laurie Pace

Silver's Gang
30 x 40 inches  Oil on Canvas

This was what Brad Bisby calls the 'battlefield'. There are times when you paint you have a set direction. If I showed you where this painting was before I scrapped it twice you would laugh and definitely think it was not related.

The spirit of this horse painting gives a strong definition to equine art because of the strength and passion in the 10 layers or more of oil paints. If I tried to paint something like this again... I could not ever get there. That is what makes this horse painting so unique.

Spirit With Us, Three Arabian Horses Painting by A Texas Artist Laurie Pace

Spirit With Us
by a Texas Artist Laurie Pace
SOLD

30 x 40 inches Oil on Canvas

The couple from the UK prayed about the name of the painting. They based it on the Trinity in a sense, but thinking of a marriage where two become together as one, Keith reflected as God at the top of the triangle and he and his wife the bottom two points. As you reduce the size of the triangle... all comes together closer as one.  He also mentioned the white Arabian symbolized purity in the Holy Spirit and the two brown Arabians were representative of he and his wife and their state of uncleanness, still working to become closer to the Father.

Summer Winds Horse Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013

Summer Winds
40 x 40 inches Oil on Canvas.

Summer Winds was quite a progressive Horse Painting. I began by rotating my canvas on the easel a quarter turn at a time and working the entire canvas with layers of paint. After I covered the entire surface I immediately knew what I saw in the painting. These are not normal palette colors for me, but I was pulled strongly to thinking of summer winds and how when they are strong they feel like they could blow right through you. They become a part of who you are. Same in the painting... the summer winds are not cold, but they move through each horse in the herd with the layers of paint weaving it all together.

This piece is at MIrada Fine Art in Denver.

Racing the Morning
28 x 42 inches Oil on Canvas.

I could not even sleep on this one. Something was missing but I could not place the hesitation that plagued me.

The camera was still not functioning and I spent four hours yesterday taking shots in various settings and finally in my non camera brain went to the internet to try and grasp what was happening.  Something called the ISO number was causing the grainy texture on every picture and it was driving me nuts.  I began to reset things and adjusted them. The suggested setting was 100 on the internet but I ended up at 800 I believe.  It was too slow at 100.  I shoot without a flash to capture the paintings.

While I am working I take progress shots and then take them into photoshop to look at the painting in reverse. I study it and make decisions on how I react to seeing it for the first time... in reverse. I knew the second I finally had decent images of this painting that it was not done... There was another horse hiding in the paint. Discovery easily brought it out with just a bit more paint layering and presto the young horse pressing on the outside to overtake the two ahead of him.  Speaks to me of life.  There always seems to be a competition and we are always trying to edge our way forward.

I have personally found in life that is not necessarily the right approach. Winning is not the truth to find happiness.  Happiness is in this very moment today.   My dad would always urge us to be the best we could be in life. He expected nothing less. But both he and Mom wanted us to be happy and to follow in life our dreams and go after what made our hearts sing.

This is my second completed painting here in the new house and I really found it to be exhilarating to paint it. Now that the camera is back on track, I believe I will be as well.

May your weekend be filled with happy moments. Savor the gifts that God has brought to you. Share them with others.

Continued Painting on Early Morning Race
28 x 42 inches Oil on Canvas.

There will be some strong changes tomorrow. I have basically worked out the composition but the paint approach is too simplistic. Life is more complicated and created with layers of experience. Such will this painting.... layers of development and I will share each part of what seems to be a paintful journey!

Thursday... it is almost the weekend. Still not unpacked. I may have to take two days off to finish doing that.  I am beginning sketches for another stretch of small paintings for the future that will be offered only on the blog. This are paintings that evolve into large paintings. While the sketches are good, I get too tight and involved and life just does not happen like that.  Time to break free and trust again in the spirit of the paint.

Music today was more Norah Jones and some Josh Radin.

Continued Painting on Early Morning Race
28 x 42 inches Oil on Canvas.

Pushing further into development today, I did get to spend as much time painting as I wanted to.  I am still trying to find my way with the spirit of each horse in the composition.  I have not decided if they are at a racetrack or where they are. The area that is structured on the right, blues and reds, almost look like the stands.

Music in the studio today was Norah Jones... a favorite to paint by when I am trying to figure things out.

May your Wednesday be filled with His peace.

First Day Progress on Early Morning Race Horse Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Pace, Golden Pond Studio

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013

Early Morning Race
28 x 42 inches Oil on Canvas.

Have not a clue the direction this is going.  I cannot seem to get my camera in a good place to shot images with the light right either. This canvas was primed with a light wash of acrylic in blue and quinacridone orange in preparation for this horse painting. Right now it is more color placement and establishing composition and energy. Feels strong but with a painting, no different from life, it can take a total turn into a different direction.

Music in the studio today was Air Supply, Darius Rucker and Ellis Paul.

May your Tuesday be filled with His love. Meditate on the love in your life today...be it Love of our Heavenly Father or love that is from your friends and family. We are all blessed with Love. It is there for the acceptance.
